Cause:

1. Machine is still infected by a virus, spyware ,or rouge antispyware.

2. Antivirus, firewall or proxy servers is preventing to access the internet.

Solution:

1. Be sure that the machine is free in virus, spyware and rouge antispyware.

2. Disable firewall, antivirus or proxy servers that possibly preventing to access the internet.

3. Run windows update and it should work.

Solution:

1. Run HijackThis.exe. Download from this Link

2. Delete 017 Entries in HijackThis.

3. Reboot the PC.

4. Run Windows update again. It should show available windows update.

Solution

1. Open Regedit.exe

2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMPONENTS

3. Delete the Entries, PendingXmldentifier, NextQueueEntryIndex, AdvancedInstallersNeedResolving

4. Download the Windows update agent and reinstall it.

For x86: http://download.windowsupdate.com/WindowsUpdate/redist/standalone/7.0.6000.381/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe

For x64: http://download.windowsupdate.com/WindowsUpdate/redist/standalone/7.0.6000.381/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x64.exe

5. Stop the BITS and Windows update service.

6. Rename the Software Distribution folder and %windir%

7. Start the BITS and windows update service.

8. Reboot the machine

9. Try to Windows update again.

Windows can’t update important files and services while the system is using them. Save any open files and restart the computer, and try to check again

Solution :

1. Open regedit.exe

2. Navigate to “HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/WindowsUpdate/Auto Update

3. Look for Registry Key “RebootRequired”.

4. Delete the Registry Key.

5. Reboot the Machine (for Safety).

6. Try to Run Windows update again.
